Bob Newman, KA6HJV, long time resident of Fairfax, CA was surrounded by his family when he passed away on March 27, 2010 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 83. Bob was born in Sacramento, CA in 1927 and moved to Fairfax at age 10. Bob was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the 25th Infantry Division. After serving his country, Bob came home and married his one and only sweetheart in 1953. Bob worked for Jewel Tea Home Shopping Service for 25 years where he had a large customer base throughout Marin. Bob was a long time member of the Fairfax Masonic Lodge #556 in Larkspur, CA and served as Secretary for 30 years. He was also a member of the Shiner’s, Scottish Rites and Royal Order of Jesters. In addition to his love for his lodge and brethren, Bob was also a member of the Amateur Ham Radio Operators Club and enjoyed his weekly radio call duties. Bob was preceded in death by his lovely wife Marie in October 1988. His loving son Robert Newman of Vacaville, CA and loving daughter Debra Newman of Santa Cruz, CA and many cousins, survives him. Inurnment will be private at Mt Tamalpais Cemetery. Memorial services are pending and will be held at the Masonic Lodge and will be announced at a later date. Bob’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Cancer Society . Bob was a caring and loving man with a wonderful sense of humor and will be deeply missed by his family, brethren and circle of friends.
