Dr. Malcolm Raff, WA2UNP – SK

Dr. Malcolm Raff, a noted astrophysicist in Berkeley, Calif., died at home Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, after a brave battle with cancer.

Dr. Raff was best known for his extensive work with image and DNA processing. He was also well-known as a founding member of Riff-Raff, a jazz ensemble, and as a flight instructor for both helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft. A contributing member to SETI, he also worked closely with the Berkeley area bird rescue program, Mickaboo. He was also very active in Amateur Radio, serving as ARRL Emergency Coordinator for Albany and Berkeley and held several positions in the NALCO Amateur radio organization.

Dr. Raff is survived by his loving wife, Connie; devoted sister, Judi Lehrhaupt; and nephews, Jay and Adam.

The Lehrhaupt family will be sitting Shiva Sunday, Nov. 7, and the evening of Monday, Nov. 8, at 1 Mount View Court, Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, donations to cancer research or the Jazzschool (www.jazzschool.com), Berkeley, Calif., are encouraged.
