Resident of Concord
Richard H. Harrell, 82, entered into rest in Concord on April 9, 2012; he was born in Oakland on March 1, 1930 to Edmund and Alma Harrell.
Richard entered the Coast Guard at 18 and ended his military career 6 years later with a rank of Radio Man 2. Richard received his AA degree from West Contra Costa Junior College in 1954 at 24 years of age. Richard spent most of his working years as an Insurance Adjuster. Realizing his dream, in 1981 Richard opened his own company, HS Insurance Adjusters and Appraisers, Inc. Richard closed his business 11 years later and retired at the age of 62.
Richard was a devoted father and wonderful friend. He was a lifelong Raider fan. Richard’s favorite destination was Twain Harte, Ca where he enjoyed golfing, skiing, swimming, and relaxing with a good book. Later in life, Richard rekindled his interests in Ham Radio. He received his license as an Amateur Radio Operator in 2008, earning his call sign “KI6SVG”.
Richard is survived by his wife, Jean F. Harrell; daughter, Patricia Gwizdak (Paul); brother, John E. Harrell (Janet) and grandchildren, Thomas, Kathryn and Sarah and longtime companion, Dona Thompson.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM, Friday, April 27, 2012 at Ouimet Bros. Concord Funeral Chapel, 4125 Clayton Road, Concord.
Memorials in Richard’s memory may be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children and sent to Aahmes Shriners, 170 Lindbergh Ave, Livermore, Ca 94551-9569
